Hi All,
I would like to configure GRUB's bootup menu so
that it will pause more than 3 sec before Linux is
loaded.
In Mandrake 7.2, I could easily do that by
fiddling with menu.lst file in the /boot/grub
directory.
HOWEVER, I am currently running Mandrake 8.0 and
menu.lst is NOT in /boot/grub

Hi Linux users,
I finally took the plunge into v8.0 yesterday
evening (upgraded from v7.2).
However, after the smooth installation, I almost
got a heart attack when LILO showed L 02 02 02 02
02 02 02. to infinity.
Has anyone else got this problem? I assume not,
since I didn't find any L 02
Hi fellow Linux users,
How do I retain GRUB after re-installing Windows?
It seems that everytime I re-install or upgrade
Windows, it will overwrite my MBR and I will lose
GRUB.
My solution currently is to re-install Linux again
so that it will install GRUB into MBR.
My current configuration is

Hi Skye,
Check out the Linux on Laptops page at:
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/
I have counted 11 links to successful install of
Linux (not necessary Mandrake though) on the
Picturebook.
Try to click out some of these pages and see
whether you can find any clues. I think
Hi Ralph,
I think the easiest way for you to get up to date
in the Linux world is to reinstall Linux Mandrake
with the most current release (version 7.2).
For non-techie, version 7.2 makes A LOT of
difference, almost like day and night. I upgraded
from 7.0 to 7.2 and I could tell a huge

Hi All,
I am now using Windows at work and Linux at home.
I wonder what is the best Windows mail client that
I can use if I want to bring my mailbox data to
and from work/home?
Currently, I am using Outlook98 at work and
NetscapeMail at home. What are some of you using?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
If I am not wrong, the rc.d directory and its subfolders
are used during initializing (startup) and terminating (shutdown)
of the Linux system.
The book "Running Linux" has a small section on this.
Cheers,

Hi,
This mailing list has a very useful archive here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/newbie@linux-mandrake.com/
So what I usually do is to just keep a few mails that
started the thread I am interested in, then to get the
rest, I would search the archive. For the topics that

Hi All,
May I know the command to find out about
the disk space information? For example
how much space is used/empty in a particular
partition. Or is there a GUI component for this
sort of thing.
Interesting note: Yesterday I experienced my first
Linux 'crash'. As my linux login screen (the
Hi Edison,
I am in the same situation as you. LILO seems to refuse to
'die' even when I use fdisk /mbr :(. Now it boots up
with a 'LIL-' and hangs the system.
I read somewhere on this mailing list that LILO is more used
for dual booting from same HD, not from different HDs. I'm
not sure
