[newbie] Question: how to get rid of ridiculously large font on the non-KDEapplications?

here is also a suspicious message when I start up Linux. When it try to set the system font to lat1-16, it says that file "execvp" doesn't exist. I'm not quite sure what this means and whether it relate to the other problem or not. I'm using Mandrake 9.0 so it is KDE 3
