Information gleaned from running dmesg reveals that Mandrake 9.2 reads
my hdc (CDrom) and hdd (Atapi Zip drive) through scsi host adapter
emulation.
Does this mean that I cannot have the zipdrive recognized directly for
what it is, namely a non-scsi drive?

If anyone on this list is successfully using a PCI modem I would appreciate knowing
the model. It's a jungle out there when it comes to finding out about
linux-compatibility in modems.

When I invoke some programs, vg Sylpheed, I get the following message:

And yet the program basically works. Anyone suggest what the message might indicate?
Thanks for any ideas.

Using the text install (my SiS6326 card not recognized by the graphic install

disk gets ejected prematurely.
Strangely the install then jumps to root password and carries on to the end. I end up

It seems that WP8 will not run on Mandrake8. Has anyone else had this problem?

On my Mandrake 7.1 I installed my HP Laserjet printer. Later verified that it was
installed using printerdrake.
Yet, when I
$lpr file.txt
I get
lpr: printer unknown.
Is lpr faulty or just my understanding of what is needed to fully install a printer on
7.1?

Gary,
Does one have to disable Kmail in order to try exmh?
Although I installed the necessary packages, the initial exmh dialogue will only
come up if I'm accessing it as superuser, not as ordinary user.

Great Paul. Just how does one do that?

Use rxvt. At least as good, and you can set All color options to
everything you want.

My security is normal. I'm on a Pentium 333, with an SiS6326 (groan) board and

I suspect two things:

Thanks Alan. Did what you suggested, but got the same result. The program

So I sent a bug report to gphoto.

The question may be academic. According to the documentation that came with a
Fujifilm digital camera, the adapter prefers a single operating system on the
harddrive. Why this should be so, I have no idea.

I can't explain it, but somehow 7.1 decided to allow Fetchmail to be installed.
I guess it found the smtpdaemon somewhere on the system.
Again, I apologize if I wasted anyone's time.

Does an .src.tar file get treated the same way as a regular, simple .tar file?
Of is it like the .src.rpm file that requires preliminary work before being
treated as a regular rpm file?
Thanks for any enlightenment.

That statement "where the path will find them" might answer some anguish I've
had with tgz files.
Could you explain why you would place the src.tgz files in a directory
different from where you would put the straight .tgz files?
And is it possible that one could untar a file in a place where

Any suggestions?
