[newbie] Hmmmmmm...no ipchains support!

Ok...so I was a little rambunxious. The kernel IS running and I can connect to the net through ppp, however for some odd reason I'm unable to configure anything for ipchains. The kernel is 2.4-test9. Anyone have any ideas as to how this can be enabled in the configuration? -- Mark /* I

Umm... sorry to break the news to you Mark, but I think you're gonna need to recompile again! Kernel 2.4 uses something called iptables, not ipchains. It's a new version of the rules which enables true routing capabilities. The 2.4 kernel DOES, however, support ipchains...but this needs to be

Alan, you know...I'm having a dickens of a time getting this kernel to compile so that I can even use either iptables, or ipchains. For the life of me I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. How does one start the iptables, if indeed it's even a service that "can" be started as one would start

yes...I'm getting there. Slowly but surely. There's a lot of good info connected to the links that you provided in the one message. Probably about 3 days worth of "s-l-o-w" reading if I want it to sink in some. :) The iptables concept sounds pretty neat so far though. Not a lot different than
