[newbie] How to use the fax?

Hello, I would like to send faxes from my notebook using my modem and OpenOffice. I have KsendFax, KdeprintFax and Kfax installed. I tried to use them but with no success. Is there a way to type my texte in oppenoffice and then send it from there? What file format shall I use for sending a faxs?
