that's good recomendations, I would just like to add that the size of /swap should not necessarily be fixed at 2xram. I have 384M of ram, linux hardly ever hits my /swap. There is no reason to dedicate 768M of hard drive space in that situation. Even when I had 256 I only used a 128M /swap
