I installed kdebase-nsplugins in 8.0 and it crashes on login. Is
this fixable, or should I just not bother and wait to install 8.2?

Deleting kdeglobals fixes the problem when your fonts go all weird in KDE,
not the konqueror thing. My apologies...
To fix the konqueror not starting up issue you have to delete

that came earlier. It made an improvement and I was able to view a web page
that I couldn't view previously, but konqueror was very painfully slow.
