[newbie] Kernel version

Hi all I've googled, looked through the how-to's, Twiki'd FAQ'd, and everywhere else I can think of. There are hundreds of pages of help for upgrading the kernel. Most of it incomprehensible:) But I cannot find how to tell what version I currently have. Anybody TIA Shaz Want to buy
