Try putting nvtv on desktop and when your've got mplayer displaying
run nvtv and select an output mode and it should pump the picture out
via your tvout.

From my understanding of how this works, yes. After your XF86Config is
correct, then anything that you see on your monitor you should also see
on the TV out. At
