I run 'soundconfig' in an Xterm each time i configure my sound, it
brings up a Yamaha OPL3-SAx driver which it is, and thus makes a mixer
available to adjust volume and the CD-Player then works. Though enabling
sound in KDE Control Centre and trying to play any sounds or having
sound
Not long ago Denis of MandrakeSoft stated categorically that Yamaha sound
cards are not well supported in Linux. Maybe just spend $10 or $20 for a
different sound card.

I also have an OPL3-SAx built into a laptop. Works great but I had to switch the DMA
settings.
Try flipping the two settings.

My son has that card in his IBM Thinkpad and had the same sndconfig
problem. He found his system only worked properly the first time he used
sndconfig - repeated attempts caused problems. He re-installed a couple
of times.

I read the archived messages and found several postings on problems wiith this
sound card, but none of the proposed solutions has done any good. It's a Yamaha
OPL3-SAX card. Ran sndconfg a bunch. What i'd like to fnd out, is anyone
successfully using ths card and can I see your
