I have an Abit BE6 and I have had success using the kernal from gentus linux (Abits
own linux). I had to download the whole iso image to get the kernel as Gentus dont
distribute any other way- no pakages /source on their site (www.gentus.com). The
distro is basically redhat 6.1 with abit

So I took the kernel and dumped the rest.
How, exactly, did you do that? I wish to do the same
I need some info !!
I am setting up my /porc/pci but how do I get info like vendor id and device

I need to know these things to setup my htp366

:~Mandrake installs with UDMA disabled - it must be enabled by hdparm.
:~However, this will only support Ultra-DMA Mode 2 with the current Kernel.
:~To get Ultra-DMA/66 you must patch the Kernel. This patch is in testing and
:~should ONLY be used on test machines.
Or try our u66-enabled

I know you cannot read my lips, but you could try reading my .sig
Sure I am going to help, but it is STILL EXPERIMENTAL, so do not blame me
if things do not work out the way you
AFAIK: Avoid "promise" controllers. hpt366 is a bit better, the rest
should be OK.

U-66. The problem is: The system works without this protocol o it doesn't boot
at all? If the problem is only due to a non used protocol,
I've read that Linux kernel does not support ata66 very well if at all and that
performance of 66 over 33 is not that great. Take it from there!

I'm running Mandrake 7 on a Abit BE6 ( onboard ATA-66 ) and when I installed
Mandrak it said ATA-66 isn't fully supported yet... but it also said it
would write a work around to the boot disk I
I too have an ata 66 drive but did some research on using this under linux. MOst of
the places I visited said that the patch for ata66 requires some
knowledge of kernel and configuration and would reuiqre same. If you haven't fiddled
with your kernel, chances are, it won't work.

That's correct.
UDMA/66 only functions under the correct conditions.
(1) BIOS enabled
(2) Proper Hard Drive - enabled by factory or utility
(3) Proper 40-pin 80 wire cable
(4) Operating System supports it.
Mandrake installs with UDMA disabled - it must be enabled by hdparm.
However, this
