There's an app I want that requires python 2.3; anybody know if I could
grab the rpm's for 9.2 and use in 9.1? Or, even better, if there's a

I think that's what I did at
Ok. Now, I'm trying to install gDeskCal for my desktop (Gnome2.2) on
Mandrake 9.1 and I can't do it because it says that I need pygtk2. So I
found the rpm for pygtk2 but I can't install that because it says that I
need python 2.2. This is the root of my problem: I can't find Python
2.2

BTW, it's not that exciting, a much better app is ROX Memo, which,
strangely enough, also requires Pygtk2. It's not just a calendar, but a
reminder/datebook/etc., it's just not

Ok. I did what you said and this is what I got:
python-2.2.2-6mdk
So, this brings up the next obvious question: why would I get a
message saying that I need Python2.2 when I try to install
pygtk2-1.99.16-1.i386.rpm? I've tried to install it via the rpm
command in a terminal as well as

The .rpm you are trying to install is looking in the wrong place
I went to the site and followed the instructions. My machine had to
download a lot of things. I'm not sure what any of it was, but I think
you certainly put me on the right track. Thanks a lot for your help.
I'll give you an update as I move forward on my installation.

it's downloading lists of packages from various ftp sites, and filing
them away so that when you type say:
urpmi mplayer
it goes

check the man page, there should be a way to extract the version info
from the command line ie. 'python -V'
just type python, to put into interactive mode and read the first line.
