I boot to a text login rather then a graphical one on my machine for
reasons that are too involved to explain right now. I use the .xinitrc
file to choose my window manager. I like to use both windowmaker and
gnome depending on my mood but I cannot remember the command to run a
windowmaker
I tried switchdesk before I sent the email, it gave me the options of
enlightenment or FVWM. I figured it out though by hunting around in the
/usr/X11R6/bin directory where I found that the .bin is called wmaker
and lo and behold if it didn't work. Thanks for getting back to me so

hmm i have the problem of switch desk doing nothing it just tells me to
restart kfm, when i do its the same desk
oh gnome freezes the entire system, supposedly the install instaleed
enlightenment however i do not see hide nor hare of it exept i have the files
for it, sawmill freezes before
