You may have to reinstall X, since the nVidia drivers step on DRI. Upgrade
to 4.1.0 while you're at it if you're not already using it.

You do realise that you are running 3.3.6, If you have one of these distro which give
you both
4.x.x and 3.3.6 try switching to 4.x.x (note that XF86Config-4 will be used then) and
selecting
the vesa driver (regrettably unaccelerated)

change the login manager by editting the /etc/inittab file. In that file,

Yea that's correct. No analogy here :-) dll are dynamic link libr
to switch between consoles in text-only mode, use
alt-f[1-6]
in X, to switch to text mode use Ctrl-alt-f[1-6] and then [ctrl]-alt-f7
to switch back to x.
