I recently acquired a Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop on which I need to run
RedHat V7.2. V7.2 comes with XFree86 V4.1.0, so I grabbed the source for
4.2.0 and rebuilt and installed it. The build and install seemed to go
with no problem.
"XFree86 -configure" generates a ton of "Symbol x from modu
I had the exact same problem and posted to the list with no response. I
ended up doing a lot of research and it actually has been touched on in
the past.
The problem appears to be with the way Dell's BIOS works. It allocates
1MB of memory to each of the i810 graphics controllers (there are two
checksum" error.
7. Generated a bunch of "Failed to set up write-combining range" errors.
8. Disables backingstore.
and ends up running in 640x480 mode. :-(
