I think i remember reading somewhere that the 650 and 700 are completely
different engines, but the canadian model (750) has the same bottom end,
just different heads (I believe)... Good luck w/ your rebuild! oh... and
pictures, pictures are needed!

I wouldnt worry the slightest about the urban legend of 'back
pressure'. I would, however, re-jet the carb main jets after altering
the exhaust. more than just the washer mod. Just my $.02

Yep. Radio Shack no.4 washers. I remember that
much of the write-ups at nighthawk.750.
Seems I also recall four quarter-inch holes specified
in each funnel on the Hodge mod, but I'm not as
certain of that remembrance.

I agree with the comment about total removal being too loud. There's a 250
here in my area with he cores removed from the stock exhaust, it's louder
than a bleeding Harley.

There isn't much difference in sound level or performance between just a few
small holes and so many holes the pipe is barely intact. But IMHO it sounds and
runs better with more holes, we went from stock to barely any pipe left in
about 4 steps. Definitely richen the pilots and either rejet
Except, parallel 180 degree twins don't sound as good.

I'm not a huge fan of the v-twin sound, honestly. Especially straight
piped.
I'm odd like that. I prefer an inline or V6 to a V8, though a V12 beats all
of them. An inline triple sounds good to me as well, and a radial 9.

Those Triumph triples sound fantastic, if only the speed triple was a bigger

Thanks for the tip Allen. I'll search for your posts. I really like the
bike and would like to do it proper if possible. My cousin the
carpenter/mechanic is coming down for New Years weekend, hopefully we will
have time to do it all then before we go ride. :)

I've also heard everything is different on the engine parts/swap
As for the hole in the case, I have 2 with the same problem. The hole
is from a connecting rod that has come loose (usually from a rod
bearing that went out). The rod snaps off, and when the crank shaft
comes around, it blows
Hey Guys, Thanks! for the info
Upon further inspection after reading the post from MoparJoe...I've
checked the the rods, they're still bolted together on the
crankshaft. The cases are split, but the crankshaft, cylinders,
pistons, head are still together in the top half of the cases, all
Roger that.
Some bikes sound good loud. Hondas just sound like loud Hondas.
