Hi, it looks pretty similar to my 92 Nighthawk I've got in bits, when look at the 83 550 parts diagram. Has the same type of seal then the needle bearing, and that's it. Looking at it I can see how wear on the shaft and needle bearing could allow oil to get through easily. Hope this helps. On S
