So, just got the bike back today from the shop after about two and a half
weeks!
bike: Nighthawk 84 650sc.
Was happy to have it back so I took it out for a spin. Very chilly day
about high 30s low 40s.
Went about 25 miles on a highway. On the way back I suddenly notice the bike
is slowing
down e
Sounds like what my 83 550 was doing. My rectifier was bad and so was the
stator. Still have problems with it though.

I'm out in the garage right now working on my bike (which appears to
have lost cylinders 3-4 over the winter).
The book says two things for you
1. Engine lacks power and overheats - Cause: Retarded ignition timing
due to ATU failure. Remedy - Check ATU.
2. Engine "Fades" while under load - Caus
The shop DID replace the plugs. I may have to look at that.

Just checked the plugs and they were all loose. The mechanic never placed
them in all the way: they came off at the first thug. Now they are all the
way in. I can't believe I rode the thing with the plugs like that for
25-30miles. I will check it again tomorrow. If that's not the issue, I will
chec
New plugs are tightened down to the seal with just another turn on
the wrench. The seals compress and then seem too easy to get out the
next time. What do you mean the first 'thug"? Were you able to
remove them without a wrench?

I don't think that would cause the problem at 65mph and not any other
speed - back to fuel or air restriction

Well well well.
This morning I was getting ready to go to work and got on the bike.
When I started it it didn't fire up as usual. Instead it was struggling. I
looked under the tank
to check for said pinched fuel line and lo and behold! The new hose the

Danged fuel starvation will get you every time. I just don't get it, it's
like engines need gas or something...

valuable thanks to the shop. I can't see how those guys can work on
engines/bikes day after day, same engines, same stuff without going
