My thoughts ran toward a blockage in the MC since it was pressure in the
line. If I'm not mistaken, the bleeder is 'upstream' of the slave cylinder,
so a bit of dirt or old rubber there shouldn't keep pressure in the line.
Regardless, if the problem has gone away and doesn't return, the point is

Good work, Bob. How did the fluid look? Sounds like you might perhaps have a
little dirt in your line, or might be nearing time for a clutch master
rebuild.
If it happens again, thoroughly drain then bleed that particular set of
hydraulics, until the fluid is clean as the fluid going in.
