Got the OEM solenoid and guess what! It slid right in perfect! Especially in
tight spaces, I think easy, even if you pay a little more ($75), is worth it.

Allen's suggestion of a paperclip is a good one. Also a very fine jeweler's
screwdriver works too. It's a single-tang retention clip, just depress the
tang with your tool and GENTLY pull on the wire to remove the terminal.
If a gentle pull does not do it you need to reposition the tool. Don't

Ugh! I can't stand a mess like that. I may just pony up and buy an OEM for
$78.

Quick question. The new solenoid arrived, but the B and M posts are backwards.
Cables aren't long enough to reach. Suggestions? Is it possible to reverse
posts?

Sure, here is a close up of the solenoid part of the 83-85 CB650 wiring
diagram I reverse engineered from Mr Clymer, however I must say that the
drawing i was working off of was a bit obscured and I think there is a link
that connects the Red wire to the main fuse as well. I say this since the

I didn't answer your question fully. Two of the wires go to the fuse. One
for battery + the other to the ignition switch. The other wires are for the
relay that operates the starter. So if that fuse or the solenoid fail all
power is lost except for the main feed for the starter. So you can bridge
t
There is wiring inside the solenoid for the fuse. Sometimes that can burn
up. Also if you bought one of the Chinese solenoids off eBay you may have
to swap the wires that plug into it. As they don't always match despite
being sold as something that is a direct fit. It is easy enough to figure
out t
Allen, my trouble shooting went pretty much along the path your mention. But I
have a question. Why/how would the solenoid failure kill all? Only thing I
can think is a dirty post on the + side
Also, the main fuse flows ALL of the bike's power? So does the 4 wire plug on
top of the sole
Thanks! I brought the solenoid from my 700S at home and my friend swapped it
out. Problem solved. Either the fuse, which was just a bare copper wire bundle,
or the solenoid. Got a new one on the way for mine at home for $10 with the new
blade style fuse.

If you have no power at all then it would have to be 1st the main fuse or
the solenoid its self, then ignition switch. Then fuse panel. That is the
electrical path. Be sure your frame ground point is clean.

A sticking ignition switch will cause this behavior too. You really need a
multimeter and the wiring diagram to diagnose this.
