A fellow state is asking a question:
We are wanting to start offering incentives to participants who take part in
our Indicator 14 survey. Can you tell me what some other states are
offering? We were thinking $5 Sonic cards or Visa gift cards. Any ideas you
have seen to be successful? Any help
Jane:
Is the individual talking about the school personnel or the individuals
(students) who we are tying to get the information from? I am assuming that we
are talking about students and some of our districts have used creative ways to
gather the information, but I am not aware of offering
A professional survey company I am working with suggested Amazon gift
card codes because they can be delivered by email (nice whether the
respondent is getting back to you in an online survey, by phone, or via
a written survey) and redeemed instantly (as soon as the survey is done,
no waiting for
Also $10 was the amount they have best observed through trial and error
that created enough incentive but remained cheap...

I caution states to think carefully before offering incentives to
districts (if that is the question). Some districts are offering
incentives to former students and /or families for their participation
but not in WA. We are a state that has a census study; all districts
participate and follow-up
Please note that my response had to do with district participation not
respondent participation! Hope I haven't confused anyone. Cinda

Sent: Thursday,
The state is asking if others provide incentives directly to students. As
others respond, it would be helpful to know about incentives at any level:
directly to students, families, teachers, or districts. Thanks all! This is
a great way to learn what others are doing! Jane
