[ns] Quick question- Different NS versions

Hi All. It is obvious that a lot of patchs and screenshots and code are designed for specific versions of NS. I am a new NS user, I use NS-2.30. Please tell me if I will need to switch my version, and if so, how to switch versions easily. And any other advice would be appreciated. Regards from
