thank you so much! was finally able to solve my problem using your
solution. :-) just one thing though, how do i produce "Figure 1.1" or
"Figure 1-1"? Thanks so much for bearing with me. I still have a lot
to learn a lot about ConTeXt. :-)

i have been trying to produce "Figure 1." in the figure caption of my
document using mkiv and i just couldn't. i've searched through the
ntg-context archives and the net for solutions but none seems to
work. however, when i try the solutions posted (e.g.

i have been using MKIV to typeset a scientific article. however,
while typesetting the table below, i notice that only the second
footnote would appear in the pdf file. can anyone help me figure out
what i did wrong? for what it's worth, i am typesetting this table

your `}' was spurious, just type `2' and it will go away.
But the problem is every } is matched, there is no extra } or {
which is not matched. I am totally confused :-(.
