I don't know what N. Reznik had in mind, but someone on the list mentioned that my problems are because I didn't know to make the proper entry in the GPO setup for 8.1.2 that it was an update to a previous GPO (8.1.1). So, the two GPOs kept whacking each other.

If your not using DNS then how to you traverse subnets to get data? If you are on networkA and need networkB but don't have an IP for it to resolve too I don't see how your going to find it. DNS is the way to go, WINS works if all machines register, DNS/WINS/DHCP is your set it and forget it.

I think really the best method is to look at the security logs for the machine in question. Look for Event ID 528 on the workstation, with a logon type of 7 (indicates the workstation was unlocked). Especially if the user left his machine on all night, it will periodically generate account logon
