It's a little cumbersome to me as an FTP server. (That's not to say that MS
FTP isn't cumbersome, but there are other options)

What do you actually want to be able to do? I ask as if it's encrypted
file transfer between people at your company and external recipients,
there are options beyond SFTP/FTPS etc.
