We have a T50 - an earlier version. I am quite pleased with it, and
the LTO3 drives in it.
We have 5 cartridges of 5 tapes each, with two drives. It's run by
Tivoli's TSM product, and seems to do well with it.

That's a good question Andy; I've been reading articles and whitepapers
that are indicating that companies are moving from tape libraries to
either a c
hardware expert.
If anyone can assist, I would take and heed all advice as to what route
I should go for the best interest and price for our council.

While they are not the cheapest solution out there, they just work. On a
bigger picture note, what about using this opportunity to move away from tapes?

Yes I have had one about a month. So far it seems very fast and solid.
Since I upgraded from the AIT2 drives it is very fast.
