On Sunday, prior to picking up my wife at Islip's airport, I birded the above.
During the time I was there, the wind direction did not cooperate, thereby
keeping the official counter(s) not very busy. Without question, the best
sighting of the day, was seeing Manny Levine and his wife, Mickey,
There was a Cattle Egret at Floyd Bennett Field this morning. I saw
if fly in and land in the Community Gardens; it soon flew off and was
then moving around to several of the fields, feeding. Left Floyd
Bennett at around 10:30am and the bird was still present.

On a Huntington-Oyster Bay Audubon Society sponsored Young Naturalist Field
Trip to the Dwarf Pine Plains and the NYSDEC's David Sarnoff Preserve, to see
the autumnal mating flight of buck moths, co-led by Stella Miller and I, we
saw common yellowthroat and yellow-rumped warblers, dark-eyed

I had an Eastern Meadowlark at the Coast Guard Station fence (seen also
feeding on the grass by 2 birders), plus Savannah, Field, and Chipping
Sparrows in addition to the White-throated, White-crowned, and Song.
There was one Snow Goose at the swale, and a
Birded in my neighborhood for a couple of hours this morning (7-9). First
highlight was an immature BROAD-WINGED HAWK sitting at the top of a dead tree
in the northeast corner of the Dyker Beach Golf Course. Over the years I have
only seen a couple of Broad-wings along the coast of Brooklyn.
A quick trip to Montauk (Suffolk Co.) this morning produced the
following:
At the Point: all three Falcons, 13 Common Eider, an AMERICAN PIPIT,
75+ Golden-crowned Kinglets, 2 Pine Warblers, 11 White-crowned
Sparrows, 70+ Song Sparrows, 2 PURPLE FINCH, 2 PINE SISKINS, & 2
Bobolinks. I
The highlights early this morning were a fly-over Cattle Egret and a Pine
Siskin at Ft. Tilden. The land bird flight was modest, consisting mostly of
Red-winged Blackbird and American Goldfinch. A Lincoln's Sparrow was north
of the ball fields at Ft. Tilden. A cooperative Yellow-breasted Chat

dominated by Yellow-rumped Warblers, Golden-crowned Kinglets, and
White-throated and Song Sparrows. We had a Lincoln's Sparrow at the northwest
corner of Robert Moses State Park Field 2, a flyby Pine Siskin, and a

a good day with lots of activity throughout the park. The most productive spot
seemed to be the area surrounding Field 2 where loads of Song, Swamp, and
White-throated sparrows as well as Yellow-rumped Warblers were
