Hi all..the Varied Thrush did not show for me today from 11:45AM-12:45PM
but, there were as many as three Accipiters present almost the entire time.
By all accounts the bird was still around as it had been seen around an hour
before unless, of course, it was on the lunch menu.
Had crushing view
As you all have either seen or heard there was a Hermit Warbler at Sunken
Meadow State Park and the continuing Loggerhead Shrike at Jones Beach State
Park. If interested here are a couple of photos of both.

Congratulations to Vinny Pelligrino on a terrific find!
I was lucky to be one of the early arrivals and enjoyed stellar views of a
very cooperative Hermit Warbler late into the afternoon. When I left,
around 2:40 p.m. the bird was still being viewed by a few birders.
For those of you interested
>From around noon til 1:30pm the Shrike was hunting all around the
boardwalk at the nature center, Jones Beach State Park. Gave great
views. Then I went to see the Hermit Warbler at Sunken Meadow State
Park on the north shore of Long Island, NY

The Varied Thrush was seen during the morning (9AM-12PM) in the same area
where it has been during past days. Around noon, there were several hawks
flying or perching next to the bathroom area, where the Varied Thrush has been
frequently seen. All the birds that had been feeding in that area (i
The Shrike was seen this morning -- and abandoned by those preferring to see a
Hermit Warbler. Funny how good birds are slipping down in the rankings lately.

The Central Park Varied Thrush was intermittently present in the leaf litter
close to the east side of the maintenance building (Rambles Shed) . It, and the
sparrows using that location, were periodically sent into hiding by a Cooper's
Hawk.

Around noon (12-1PM) we saw a Yellow-breasted Chat on the parking area next to
the Boat House. The bird moved between the parking area next to the East Drive
and the grass area between the East Drive and the path near the playground.
Yesterday, it was spotted closer to the building area (the res

Just back from seeing the amazingly awesome and cooperative Hermit Warbler at
Sunken Meadow State Park. Hope it sticks until tomorrow for those who couldn't
make it today. For those who can only see this bird vicariously some shots are

This morning Vinnie Pellegrino found a Hermit Warbler, probably a young
female(?) at Sunken Meadow State Park.
Originally he found it along the northwestern edge of the bushes north of the
closed parking lot (this is west as you drive over the bridge).
When we arrived around 11 AM or so it had m
