Central Park continued to enjoy some of the same species it has been
lately, including multiple Cape May Warblers, particularly at the old
bridle path around the reservoir, which has had some nice flocks (of
warblers in particular) in oaks and some
This evening I visited Hubbard County Park off Rt. 24 in Flanders and found
the following:
2 active Osprey nests
2 Male Eastern Bluebirds
2 Wren (ID unknown)
at least 4 Orchard Orioles (two being 1st spring males, 1 being a female and
the other a mature male)
2 blue-gray gnatcatchers. The

I agree that Australian Shoveler shares some superficial characters to
this bird. A couple of the most obvious differences are that
Australian Shoveler has a much larger bill and broad heavy markings
across the breast (not Blue-winged Teal like spotting).

A termite hatch out on Lookout Hill in Prospect Park yesterday morning
created a spectacular showing, of what seemed like, an endless stream
of hungry songbirds. The highlight of the event was a Cerulean Warbler
that hopped around on the ground snatching up the abundant insects.

Hi everyone,
This morning on our way back to Ithaca, Jessie Barry and I stopped at
the Montezuma NWR Visitor Center. We saw what may be my first lifer in
New York, a hybrid BLUE-WINGED TEAL X NORTHERN SHOVELER. This was
certainly one of the more spectacular birds that we have seen recently
