Today, my dad and I enjoyed a great day of birding, in which we focused on
Jones Beach West End.
The highlight of our day was a Gray Kingbird, which I found around 10:15.

Several birders were at Hamburg Town Park today, hoping to see some
wind-blown birds. Jim Pawlicki had a group of four distant jaegers before
noon but other than that, it was pretty slow with some flocks of Wigeon,

The highlights of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) birding trip to Riis
Park and Ft.Tilden were a fly away Red-headed Woodpecker, two White-crowned
Sparrows, Brant (FOS) and a flyover Turkey Vulture. It was a very slow day
with only 29 species seen, our lowest ever.

It surprised me to see that the American Coots I saw this afternoon on Sylvan
Water were my first Greenwood record in almost fifteen years of birding this
spot! I had them at about 2 PM but they were gone about two hours later.
Today made me wonder just how rare this species is at Greenwood.

Didn't get Out East until late this afternoon so no time to bird. The yard
(Northwest Woods) was quiet, but there was a single ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER
(yard bird for me) and a single Yellow-rumped Warbler among the residents.

Looking to bird somewhere out of the gusty SW wind, I headed up to
Sunken Meadow State Park on the north shore (Smithtown). The brush dump
adjacent to the northwest corner of closed parking field 1, and the
wet area immediately south of field 4, were the most productive areas.
The dump had 7 specie
I just discovered a Gray Kingbird at the Coast Guard Station hedgerow
as of 10:15 am. It was being harassed by mockingbirds and flew east
toward the boat basin lot. It was last seen as it flew out of the
cedars at the east end of this parking lot; it continued east out of
sight.
