State Park today:

The Yellow-headed Blackbird is shown on the highway signs over the roadway
on Captree Island. In the wide angle shot, it's surrounded by Starlings and
the surprisingly (to me) small size of the bird is striking.

On one beautiful thermal -at the end of the bird walk: 1 bald eagle, 18 TV,
Merlin, Sharp shinned, 4 Cooper's hawks. Also, pine, yellow rumped, and
magnolia warblers. Warbling and blue headed vireo. Eastern Phoebes, Baltimore

Despite arriving roughly an hour after sunrise, I was able to witness a very
entertaining morning flight at Fort Tilden in Queens. I spent almost 2 hours at
the old hawkwatch platform on top of Battery Harris, and was joined for much of
the time by Seth Ausubel and Gene Herskovics.
The highlight
Currently being seen, from north west corner upper parking lot. Harassed by
mockingbirds.

Sue and I were feeling pretty good about finding a Prothonotary Warbler at the
dump (NW corner of Field 2) at Sunken Meadow State Park until our phone rang
and Shai Mitra told us that Ken Thompson had found a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
at rarity central, otherwise known as Captree State Park. We
I was at Sunken Meadow Park around 9:45 when I heard about the Prothonotory
warbler, but could not find it after an hour of searching. Better luck at
Captree. The accommodating Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher was still visible when I
left around noon, in the open area just north of the overlook pa

had more than 45 minutes to spare.

Mecox Inlet (Watermill, Southampton). After showing some interest in fish
being herded into the shallows by cormorants, the pelican continued east. I

Jeff Ritter just phoned to report a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER at Captree State
Park on the south shore of Long Island.
Ken and Sue Fuestel report a beautiful PROTHONOTARY WARBLER at Sunken Meadow
State Park on the north shore of Long Island. This bird was near parking lot #
