Encouraged by the wind direction Monday night/ Tuesday morning, and the
Turkey Vulture seen through my bathroom skylight at 0730 Tuesday morning, I
ventured down to the hawk-watch at Robert Moses State Park, on a brisk, but
beautiful day !
Arriving late morning, while walking along the boardwalk to
Edith Wilson just sent me a photo of the Yellow-headed Blackbird that was
present at the Fire Island hawkwatch yesterday, and she has kindly allowed me
to post it on my picasa site. Comparing it to the bird I found later in the
morning at Captree SP, they are basically similar. Both appear to be

Joe Giunta Debbie Martin and I (Sy Schiff) started at the Winchester Blvd
Parking Lot (entrance under the parkway). We walked towards the trees along the
far side of the ball field where we finding a PHILADELPHIA and RED-EYED VIREO
and a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET. The few warb
No sightings since 9:25. I left at 1:30.

Just as a public service announcement for those unfamiliar with the area.
The park is located north of the LIE in Queens County and the section where
the bird was seen is west of Kissena Blvd. The corner or Peck and 151st is
where I entered the park.
I spent a few hours there this morning. There
Thought I should make people aware that there are some escaped Long-tailed
Paradise Whydahs on the loose in Kissena Park, Queens, NY.
Just an FYI, so these don't cause heartbeats to skip. I imagine that some
amount of various cage bird escapees are fairly regular in the NYC area?

Bird was just seen (9:25 am) in the area immediately west of the artificial
ball field. Go across the baseball field and bird was along the edge of the
field. It flew west into a bunch of short tress with obvious red very clumps
that border the wood chip path. . Maybe it's sumac (not sure). It w
The search since 8 AM has not turned up the Bell's Vireo. The area where it was
seen is actually just north of the wood chip path that goes West away from the
north end of the football field.
