Went to observe the adult Red-headed Woodpecker today from about 11am to 1:30pm
and was rewarded with great behavior and views of this gorgeous bird. It also
offered alot better photo ops than the ones in Ridgewood, NJ I was going to.

A beautiful fall morning in Inwood Hill Park in upper Manhattan. Given the
cool temps and the nw winds I was hoping for more of a hawk flight than was
apparent. There were good numbers of kinglets and Yellow-rumps around, but
fewer sparrows than yesterday. Highlights included:

It continues to be a warm fall in the Adirondacks (each year becomes more
worrisome). This past September was about the most beautiful that I can
ever recall. Before listing a few October sightings, I wanted to mention
that Ruby-throated Hummingbirds stayed quite late this year in Long Lake. A
There were 3 Avocets floating about 25 feet off the beach at the end of the
trail from the Nature Center at Jones Beach at 10 AM. After I and my wife,
Tracy Meade, saw them and got some adequate pictures, the birds took off for
parts unknown. I'll post photos later.

We just observed mature Bald Eagle fly over the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in
Great River Suffolk County NY. This NY State Park facility is located on the
Connetquot River Estuary.

Sorry - that would be one WHITE-FACED IBIS and one GLOSSY IBIS that I was
referring to in my previous post. Not sure if the news of these 2 birds made

Both Ibis flew into Benning Marsh at 7:32 AM from somewhere to the west and are
now feeding in the grass near the road west of the designated parking area.

Hi All,
Had a nice day at Pelham Bay Park, where I spent the whole day in the Turtle
Cove section. The RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS continue in the same area of Turtle
Cove with 3 in total being seen this morning. In the Spartina at the tip of the
marshy peninsula south of Turtle Cove and City Island
