look for the nice birds Richard Aracil has been seeing lately. I initiated
the emailing which brought about our 1st meeting, at ~ mid-afternoon at the

This afternoon I birded Turtle Cove, Orchard Beach Lagoon and the Marsh south
of City Island Road. I started in Turtle Cove were I had two RED-HEADED
WOODPECKERS in their usual haunts. As I birded the Lagoon, I saw what I'm

Today, a Short-eared Owl was observed flying at very casual height above
the tree canopy ~1 km south of the watch platform at Chestnut Ridge
Hawkwatch--just outside Mount Kisco, Region 9. The owl was intensively
harrassed by 2 Common Raven while 2 American Crow waited on the wing
nearby and tracke
While looking for the Franklin's Gull which as reported by Andrew, was not
re-found, I observed a small gull flying offshore with a few laughing gulls.
It was obviously smaller, with bold white markings on the wings, a bold black
triangle on the edge of primaries and a brown back, white tail th

I along with many others that included Bobby Rossetti, Eric Miller, Isaac
Grant, Harry Taylor, Ed Becher and I am sure others who I did not see at
the sites, split up and tried to cover the beach areas from fields 2 - 5.

birdbath in the northeast planting area (just north of the NE corner of the
lawn, which is all under construction for the winter fair). Despite the

A cold and raw morning. Yesterday 24 ROYAL TERNS were reported on the bar.
Today the same number were resting on pilings on the other side of the inlet. A
large number so late in the season.

The 1st winter Franklin's Gull seen this morning on the beach at Robert Moses
State Park had not been relocated by early this afternoon, despite intensive
searching. There are still large numbers of Laughing Gulls loafing on the beach
between Fields 2 and 5, although the many fisherman walking t

Among a large group of Laughing Gulls on the beach, between RMSP Fields 2 and 3
was an immature Franklin's Gull. I will post photos this afternoon. Bird still

Isaac Grant just let me know of a Sedge Wren at Jacob Riis Park in Queens. His
text said "Sedge wren at Riis. Along bush near beach near western most handball
court."
He is trying to get photos but the bird is being uncooperative.
