Separation of basic-plumage Dunlin and Curlew Sandpiper can be quite
challenging outside of alternate plumage, especially in the New World where
the predominant subspecies of Dunlin (hudsonia and pacifica) have longer

Brendan Keogh, aka Bronx Brendan, found an active Cliff Swallow nest at Orchard
Beach. I don’t ever remember seeing one in this area. I’m curious to know if
any others have been reported in the NYC area.

I saw the Whistling-Duck around 2:30 this afternoon (Thursday). For the
first time that I know of, he was on the east side of the creek, on top of a
picnic table that was submerged in water up to the benches. Lake Ontario's
water level is high now and the spit of land that the duck likes to rest on

(west most) vernal pool off the Teddy Roosevelt Nature Center parking lot.
