At the close of the day I decided to check some of the local docks along the
Great South Bay while there was still some daylight left. I ended up finding
several large rafts of scaup at the south end of Blue Point Avenue (Blue Point,
NY). The vast majority of scaup were out of viewing range but

an impromptu run to Montauk today, eventually making our way to the farm
fields north of Riverhead in search of flocks of geese.
The scoter and eider spectacle at Montauk Point did not disappoint.
Highlights included the
Took a short trip down Dune Rd to check out birds and to see the aftermath
of the storm surges reported for the area. The former was decent, but not
much unexpected. In terms of the storm damage, the road had been reopened,
but there were clear signs of overwash and badly damaged dunes.

I have no idea how easy or difficult CANVASBACK is to get in Westchester
County these days. With that said, a small raft was off the north end of
the Wastewater Treatment Plant on the Hudson in Yonkers today.
