While driving along Rt. 17 between Binghamton and Liberty on Friday (3/4), we
saw at least 4 Bald Eagles and a beautiful leucistic Red-tailed Hawk (almost
all-white - some dark areas on the lower back and tail). Returning the same
route on Sunday (3/6), we saw 2 Bald Eagles and 1 adult Golden

Sheryl and I just learned about a proposed wind farm proposal for the Towns of
Yates and Somerset (Niagara and Orleans County) along Lake Ontario - called the
Lighthouse Wind Energy Project by Apex Energy. Apparently, this has been in the

With the storm in full swing today, our feeders had an abundance of birds.
Northern Cardinals stole the show, with at least 44 present at one time this

I watched Lake Ontario for almost 4 hours today (10:53-12:53, 2:55-4:35) at
Shadigee in the Town of Yates (North end of Rt. 63) and saw lots of movement.
Highlights included numbers of Brant, Black Scoter, and Purple Sandpipers.

This morning, a Carolina Wren was singing incessantly on Koepsel Rd. in
Wolcottsville, where I have not had them before. While driving north on
Griswold Rd. near Middleport, a Golden Eagle passed by going west, in
association with a Red-shouldered Hawk and a couple of Turkey Vultures.

Our spring migration day tour at Braddock Bay near Rochester on 4/23
was a huge success. Covering the East Spit, Owl Trail, and Hawkwatch,

I was surprised to see a Eurasion Collared-Dove at our bird feeders
this afternoon (12398 Platten Rd., Lyndonville). We normally have 40+
Mourning Doves around every day, but the Collared-Dove was by itself.
It only stayed a couple minutes. I will repost if it returns.
