see the differences between the right and the left (damaged) eye.

He eye socket is indeed empty. Herb Houghton from NJ showed my a picture today
where the empty socket was evident. Herb also states that he took a photo of
the bird head on that shows the convex shape of the birds right eye and a
concave area where the left eye should be. He has a photo web
Felipe, if you have a link for these photos outside of Facebook, perhaps you
may considering sharing.
There are many list serve subscribers who are not on Facebook and probably
don't know the reference to NY Birders.

I haven't been able to get up to Orange County to see the caracara in
person yet, but taking a closer look at some of the better photos
embedded in eBird checklists does indeed show what looks to be an empty
socket where the bird's left eye should be:
