Salutations: Happy Chinese Valentine’s Day!
Yesterday, I spent a good 5+ hours on the East Pond, making my way up north
from the southend. My goal was to get to “Calidrid Crossing” to cut back the
trail. I did accomplish that and cleared out most of the Poison Ivy until my
blade lost its

Mei Yee and I birded the north end of the East Pond this afternoon until around
6:30 p.m.
There were not many shorebirds around but given high tide was still a few hours
away when we left, it is hard to measure the "true" volume. Nevertheless, in
that time frame the count was small.

A belated report from the East Pond.
Yesterday, I did a schlep from the south to the north end of the east pond. My
hike began on a pleasant note, running into the legendary Arthur Morris who was
doing his photography thing.
There were a good number of peeps scattered all along the shores of

More shorebirds than yesterday but not by much. The increase was all about the
Semipalmated Sandpipers. I estimated around 150. 1 STILT SANDPIPER was also of
note.
Other notable birds include 1 Green Heron, 1 Black-billed Cuckoo first heard
calling across the pond on the west side near Gull

Birded the north end after work. Tide was wrong. Numbers were very low. Only
birds of note were 9 Stilt Sandpipers and 1 Pectoral Sandpiper.

I also went to the East Pond today, and will add to Andrew's email only
that on the way out, near the south side entrance, I came across a Western
Sandpiper mixed in with a flock of Leasts and Semis. Thank you to Andrew
for looking at my photo and helping me clinch the ID!
Good Birding,

I spent the morning on the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, birding
the entire pond.
The overall shorebird numbers continue to remain low. However, peeps are
increasing led by Least Sandpipers.
A total of 10 species of shorebirds with 1 STILT SANDPIPER being the highlight.

This morning I birded the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, on the
rising tide. I was on the pond just after first light and covered the pond
from south to north and back.
The total shorebird numbers were just about 500 which is way down from a
week ago.

I'll start with today from the East Pond at Jamaica Bay. The good numbers
of shorebirds continued today although I could see that the peep numbers
seemed less than Saturday. The diversity of shorebirds has built quite
nicely and it was neat to see so many birders enjoying the pond on Saturday
