South Oyster Bay Road going west near exit 42 , not the exactly the best
place for them

I saw a bird at 11am at Mill Pond in Bellemore that was Most likely the common
Gallinule that Joe Landesberg found last week. The bird was not visible when I
left.

heard both at 6:30am and 10:30am.
At the South end of the park, about 200 yards SSW of Parking lot #3. Could be
heard from the paved path singing on the Southern edge of the Creek.

While waiting for the train to Manhattan I heard then saw a raven on the
building south of the station

The Jones Beach Red Phalarope continues but not at any of the now dry areas
near the Teddy Roosevelt Nature Center.
This according to Steve Schellenger who just called to report that the bird was
seen at the eastern edge of the lagoon near the Coast Guard Station. Smart bird
that.

After a late morning trip to Jones Beach to see the Red Phalarope, Eric
Reubel and I made a quick stop at Cammanns Pond Park in Merrick. (Never
having read anything about it on the list serves, we'd first happened upon

At 2:00 pm as Rich Fried, Brian Padden and I were heading back to the city,
we happened upon a Rough-legged Hawk flying near the road. It was hovering
and soaring over a field. We didn't get to see it for an extended time as
we could only make a quick pullover.
Other highlights of the morn
Sue and I decided to "embrace the winter'" today with a mornings birding in
Nassau County. We started at Jones Beach/West End where we anticipated that
snow cover might bring some interesting species. As we drove in to the boat
basin parking lot we observed four American Pipits busily feeding on
Brendan Fogarty just texted me to report that he has re-found what is
presumably the Sea Cliff Black Guillemot.
The bird was seen far offshore from Sands Point, a little east of the
bluffs by the parking lot.

Having spent scouting in Queens and Brooklyn the last few days. Today, I took
a crack in Nassau County, spending most of my time near and around the Coast
Guard Station and West End II at Jones Beach, then rounding things out with a
stop at Point Lookout.

The previously reported Eurasion Common Teal was seen today at sundown at
the north end of Smith Pond in Rockville Center. There were about 25
Green-winged Teal present with it. Two of the drakes (other than the
common teal) did not have have the vertical line at the side of the
breast/front of
I went over to Hempstead Lake State Park (HJSP) this morning to see if the
previously reported Chat was present - no luck. Other birders reported the same
results. However, taking my normal "Spring" circuit of the park resulted in a
decent variety of birds, including Brown Creeper, Golden-crown

Sometimes those Ocean parkway drives are productive. Around 12:30 this
afternoon there was an adult Red-Shouldered Hawk soaring westward over the JFK
Tobay sanctuary towards Zak's bay
