In going over photos from a kayak paddle today in Jamaica Bay, I discovered
what appears to be an adult Neotropic Cormorant that was roosting on the
northeastern sandbar of Yellow Bar Hassock at about 9:45 am. Since other
individuals of this species in the area have returned repeatedly to the

Although inconsistently seen, the Neotropic Cormorant that I originally found
on 6/11 persists today, 6/24, at Wolfe’s Pond here on Staten Island. The bird
shows a preference to rest on a fallen tree along the west side of the pond,

Per Dick Veit, the Neotropic Cormorant at Wolfe’s Pond on Staten Island
continues this morning, 6/14.

The Neotropic Cormorant that I first found two days ago at Wolfe’s Pond on
Staten Island has returned today, 6/13. Birders are currently seeing the bird

The news from folks here is that the Neotropical Cormorant flew off at about 3
40 PM. it had not returned to the pond by nightfall. A few searched around
other likely spots with no luck.

DIRECTIONS:
The locations were near Lake Erie between the Dunkirk-Fredonia exit and the
Westfield exit from the NYS Thruway. If coming from the north, exit at
Dunkirk-Fredonia
