West End obviously received some good coverage today, with many birders
recording the same species independently. We started out the morning getting a

We walked the Jones Beach State Park side of Jones Inlet this morning, despite
the snow and ice that made walking a real workout. Highlights included the
continuing Northern Shrike observed north of the Fishing Road, mostly staying

We birded Jones Beach State Park this morning, starting at Field 6. We
spent some time going through the large flocks of shorebirds roosting
on the beach between Field 6 and the Water Tower. Present in a flock
of approx. 5,000 Dunlin were two Western Sandpipers and two Red Knot.

After spending a slow hour or two birding at Hempstead Lake State Park, I
traveled over to West End 2 and took advantage of the light winds did a loop
from the WE2 pavilion west to the WE jetty and then south along Jones Inlet and
finally east on the fisherman's trail back to the WE2 parking

At WE this morning there was an American Golden Plover on the sandbar in the
WE2 Marina along with three Western Willets and twenty-five Red Knots. On the
ocean south of the swale the calm winds resulted in excellent viewing
conditions. We observed a single Parasitic Jaeger harassing Laughing
