confusion. Some big trucks earlier than 1954 had a "235" engine but it was a
larger displacement version of the 216 babbit pounder, not the engine

My radio is an original one that's been converted to 12v. I'll try to get a
smaller fuse. I think my static is still a bad antenna ground that I haven't
found/fixed since the static isn't there everytime I turn on the radio with
the engine running but thanks for the troubleshooting "lo

I think the driveshaft is ok. I put the rear end up on jackstands and ran it
up to 60mph - no noticle vibration and no slop in the shaft when the engine

It's called a ballast resistor, Roy. Unfortunately, all 12v coils are not
created equal. Your basic 12v coil needs the ballast resistor but you can
get one thru NAPA that has the resistor built-in. They usually have it
labeled whether you need the ballast resistor or not. Here's my website log

BW is correct, Jim. Inside the shift box (if that is where your problem is)
is an oblong shaped lever that is supposed to ride between two c-shaped
forks . . . Like he sez, hard to describe but fairly easy to see what's
wrong and to fix. You may have to disconnect the shift rods going down to
the
Bite the dog first. It will catch him off-guard.
Jim Carter's is a good place. Chevy-Duty has them too, I think. You can only
use two rubber bushings but there are six in the Jim Carter pack (konfused
the heck outta me at first). It's good to have the spares.

If its like my 55 1st series, Bob, they bolt into a loose plate on the back
side of the bracket. It might just be rusted in place (mine fell off after
the bolt threads cleared it). A little hammer and chisel work might loosen
it up.

First of all, welcome. Sorry you got bruised a bit on your first foray on
the list. We're used to "bling-bling" types invading the list from time to
time. Unfortunately, sometimes we shoot from the hip. Many of us belong to
both the old-chevy-trucks list (spiritual restoration) and the
54 will fit the 55 1st series for the same truck model and brand (chevy 1/2
