I was walking through a local wrecking yard today looking for some parts and
what did I happen to see but a 1966 Toronado, or what was left of it. I
popped the hood and sure enough the B headed 425 was all there intact,
except for the carb. The motor is locked solid and has probably been that
Get it, pull the whole engine/trans/final drive package. DON'T
damage the crossover shaft under the center of the engine.
You can probably get your money back just by selling an
intact switch pitch transmission and the 3.21 final drive
to the GMC motorhome guys. Then there is the forged
Andrew,
I was thinking maybe bearings in the water pump or alternator?
Yes, that's it. Water pump bearing first guess, alternator front bearing
second. After the bearing warms up enough, it quiets a little.

For $50.00 I'd grab the engine Marty. Take what ever pulleys or other parts
are attached to it. You should be able to make some money on the parts
unless they are extremely rusted.
I was at one of the local wreckers today and they didn't have any thing
older then 1975 in the yard.( I need parts
Marty,
With this motor
sitting for so long with no carb on it and being as it is seized up, is it
still worth pulling out. Is there anything salvageable or worthwhile on
it
that I should get the whole motor.
Yes, get the whole engine. That engine is a perfect candidate for
rebuilding.

Hi All,

Joe,
Anyway, all this meandering aside, I guess what I'm trying to figure is
whether or not, with the technology available today, would it be possible
to build an economy car running strictly on gasoline, AND meeting modern

Yes! It is extremely possible, if there was a will to do it.
Ahh . . and that is what I wanted to know.
Always remember, cutting weight equals higher speeds or quicker acceleration
or improved fuel economy or all 3 at the same time.
Or as I read
Assuming no changes to the tires, does making a car lighter improve overall
traction and handling, or worsen it? I was thinking that being lighter
might make traction worse simply because there's less downward force on the
tires.
But on the other hand . . a heavier car has more inertia.
