This server is still maintained however it had hardware failure, it's
in the process of being re-built on Ubuntu 12.04 and will be alive
soon - although no firm ETA exists at this time, replacement hardware
has been acquired. I will update the Wiki to indicate the current
status.

On other projects, outside of Evergreen I've seen GMail "eat" messages.
Their server reports receipt of the message but it is never delivered.
Other times the message is not lost, its simply routed to the Promotions
tab of the GMail UI.

There was some conversations recently about an external LDAP authentication
interface, itself coded in perl. That could be modified to talk to your
CiviCRM via direct database connection, or web-api to your liking.
