I'm not familiar with Bacula, so I can't comment or compare it.
I use AFS 'backup' to write volume set files to a central server with
SAN disk attached. We hold them on disk for one semester, then move
them to a tape library for two years. That scheme provides quick
restores of current
IT.
The AFS Admin Guide and AFS Reference docs explain both commands in detail.
Good luck.

Joe,
I chose your #2 method of moving my DB servers (4), over the course of a few
weeks during the summer of 04. I believe both methods has merits and I'll
wager you won't have trouble in any case.
The only caveat with method #1 is if you've made some mistake in the
configuration of one DB
resumed normal operation.
My questions:
What could have caused the RO volumes to become unmounted?
If the RO volumes are inaccessible, doesn't the RW volume become the
failover site?
What can I do to prevent this in the future?
Thanks.

A bug, or a person.
It appears that the volume was cloned this morning by a script,
unsuccessfully. This I believe is what caused the RO volumes to become
unmounted.
If the RO volumes are inaccessible, doesn't the RW volume become
a size to force it
