I don't have such PATA feature on in9-32max which high end mobo as well. I think the point here is in fixing the opensolaris build so it would work fine with Sata drives. I believe Sata will soon be almost on every pc so it's better to fix it now. This message posted from opensolaris.org

Install Solaris's GRUB! "Plain" GRUB cannot understand UFS, but Sun's does all that the normal GRUB can + UFS (ZFS too?? - not sure) So install Solaris last, or if you're already done, pop in the Solaris DVD, go to single user shell, and when it asks to mount the Solaris install r/w on /a, say
