Aaah merci. I apologize. Guess there's quite a lot more reading / learning to
do if switching to OpenSolaris as a Linux user.. Thanks for your patience.

Hi,

What can I do to speed up the latency of the

Hi FrankH,
Thank you for your reply.
I would like to use filesync to backup from local disk(UFS) to file server.
The size of local disk is 3TB. so, I plan to backup incrementaly everyday.
I think to use ufsdump ufsrestore. but ufsdump can't backup until level 9.

Not in the ON tree, but in SFW. See:

Thanks FrankH,
I hope rsync to move from SFW to ON.

May I ask why is it important / relevant where the rsync sourcecode is
maintained ?
SFW, ON, X11, ... - all source repositories, all parts of OpenSolaris.
There should be no difference
Go and check your laptop BIOS setup for energy saving modes when
on batteries first.
I have done this. Checking the BIOS showed me that there is no
configuration for such settings.
The laptop is a Compaq nx6325 with BIOS 68TT2 (F.07) from HP.

I have read about Solaris packaging projects that extend pkg, however I am not
convinced of the effectiveness of building on a packaging system that
demonstrates several limitations. To mention only two, are:
- the lack of a standard package building method
- the lack of dependencies resolution

why not tgz from slackware?
i mean it's a plain and simple tar.gz with some control files, it's easy to

When I use a live cd to boot a system. at the beginning of the boot,
system will prompt configure Language. How can I skip this phase and
boot the system directly. Another question is how can I use root login
instead of login as other user and use su command to change to root user?
