Of course you are right in that fingerprint readers are not ultimate security devices, but I think the crucial point is that it's not very nice to have hardware components which are just dead because the OS doesn't support them. Yes, I'm downloading the 2009.06 preview - but it's no fun with

[osol-discuss] pine or alpine

2009-05-17 Thread Charles Alexander
Hello: I have seen a couple of web sites that have pine/alpine packages that are for Solaris and say should run on opensolaris. Purplecow and a Drydog (I may be wrong on that last name) I tried both and could not get anywhere. Are there any plans for adding Alpine ? Or can someone help me to use

[osol-discuss] trouble adding a disk

2009-05-17 Thread Edward Ned Harvey
I have solaris inside of vmware. I shutdown solaris, added a new IDE disk to it, powered on, went into BIOS just to be sure it was showing, and then booted the OS. When I run format it only shows me one available disk: 0. c0d0 Is there something I'm supposed to do before format? I tried

I figured it out. By default, vmware autodetected solaris 10 when it looked at the installation media, but it should have been solaris 10 x64 . So I reinstalled vmware tools, and that seems to have fixed it. From: opensolaris-discuss-boun...@opensolaris.org

Louis, No body really knows the answer to this, anything is pretty much speculation at this stage. Its pretty difficult to 'reverse' the open sourcing policy now but then anything could happen. You'll have to wait and see - just like everyone else in the industry. On 17 May 2009, at
