Re: [osol-discuss] Register: "Solaris, OpenSolaris, and the Oracle wall of secrecy"

This is the kind of crap they pull at Apple. Everything is a big secret. Keep your customers in the dark. Oracle management must have gone to the Steve Jobs school of how to treat your customers with contempt. Will there ever be another OpenSolaris release? I'm beginning not to care. -- This m

I hope you're right and all of that is true. I dont want to see OpenSolaris become another orphan OS or another "might have been." BTW, I use it as a desktop OS, not as a server. There are some things I have to use Windows 7 for, but most of my day to day computing tasks can be accomplished wit

I dont think its at all clear that OpenSolaris (or Solaris for that matter!) has a future under Oracle. They're as bad as Apple. Secretive. Uncommunicative. Leaving customers in the dark. Time to jump ship to Ubuntu? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _

[osol-discuss] snv_93 much slower than previous

2008-07-19 Thread Mark Kaiman
I downloaded snv_93 to my ThinkPad recently. It seems much slower than previous builds when redrawing windows, launching applications, etc... Anyone else notice this? I am actually thinking of reinstalling the original 2008.05. It ran much more smoothly. This message posted from opensolaris.

Agreed. A "good looking font" or an "ugly font" is a very subjective determination. The solution is to let users keep the old Java Desktop look from build 86, or opt for something different. This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-d

I called Sun and I was willing to spend $324 for a year of support. However, I asked if for my money they could guarantee a solution. I didn't want to shell out $$ for someone to run me through what I've already tried, and then be told they couldn't help. Turns out that Sun doesn't officially su

I would be happy to submit bug reports as Calum suggested above. I'm not one of those people who just want to complain - I'd like to help Sun improve the product so I can actually use it. Is there a URL for bug reports? If you can suggest anything that would get wireless or wired networking to w
